ALL Theatre Majors (including BA Theatre) are required to accept the role as cast, unless circumstances fall under the language in the Handbooks for exemptions to casting. Make sure that link is on your form!<\/p><p><span style=\"color: inherit;font-family: inherit;font-size: 1.75rem;font-weight: 600\">Performance Requirements for this audition:<\/span><\/p><div class=\"px-4 py-3 bg-secondary my-4\"><ol><li>Slate Your Name, Major, and Year<\/li><li><strong>One <\/strong>comedic monologue no longer than 30 seconds<\/li><li><strong>30-45 seconds <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of a Classical monologue, like Shakespeare or the Greeks, with heightened language.<\/span><\/strong><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>30-45 seconds<\/strong> of a Contemporary\/Pop Musical Theatre song in the style of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Legally Blonde (please do NOT sing from the show)<\/span><\/i><\/li><li><strong>Jump rope submission (optional)<\/strong><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This is <\/span><\/i><b><i>not required<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014just an initial skill assessment for select tracks.<\/span><\/i><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If accessible, please submit a <\/span><\/i><b><i>10\u201315 second video<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of <\/span><\/i><b><i>two-feet jump roping<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/i><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b><i>Do not purchase<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a jump rope. Know the styles of the plays and select appropriate audition material. If there are specific guidelines listed for specific plays, KNOW THEM!<\/li><li class=\"mb-3\">DRESS APPROPRIATELY! Present yourself in the best possible manner. Directors will make judgment about you the minute you walk into the room. Don\u2019t let that judgment be negative. This includes shoes \u00ad don\u2019t wear flip flops or shoes you can\u2019t walk in when you audition. And, make sure your hair is combed and out of your face!! Don\u2019t walk in looking like you just crawled out of bed!<\/li><li class=\"mb-3\">Behave in a professional manner. Be polite to everyone you meet and encounter. You never know who will be making casting decisions. That includes the way you talk to Stage Managers, Accompanists, Assistants, and Directors.<\/li><li class=\"mb-3\">Be prepared and on time! Have everything required of you for the audition. The Stage Managers will NOT help you with making copies of your headshot\/resume\/music\/audition forms. Do your job and be prepared to demonstrate how professional you are.<\/li><li class=\"mb-3\">Have your sheet music prepared appropriately.-Don\u2019t bring in a whole songbook or pages taped together like an accordion. Copy the song from the book and put it into a nicely-organized notebook that will sit on the piano easily.-Be sure your music is from a full score or songbook. Do not bring in music that only has chords or is from choral books or is written for guitar!-Be sure your song is in the correct key. The Accompanist will not transpose on sight for you.-DO NOT PUT YOUR MUSIC IN PLASTIC SHEET PROTECTORS!-Make sure the copy of your music has ALL THE MUSIC on every sheet. Double check to make sure the bottom line of music hasn\u2019t been cut off.-Make sure the title of the song is marked clearly somewhere on the first page of your music.-Mark your music clearly for the following: Intro, Vocal Begins, Cuts in the Song, Repeats, Song Ends.-Communicate with the Accompanist what tempo you want your song. They aren\u2019t mind readers \u00ad sing a little of the song for them.<\/li><li class=\"mb-3\">Be sure to \u201cslate\u201d clearly \u00ad this includes your name and the titles of the pieces you will be performing. Slate ALL YOUR PIECES before you begin your audition. Don\u2019t waste valuable time announcing each piece individually.<\/li><li class=\"mb-3\">If you plan to use the chair in the room, SET IT UP BEFORE YOU BEGIN! You waste valuable seconds during your audition slot by taking time to move the chair to where you want it. It\u2019s stronger if you act without using a chair.<\/li><li class=\"mb-3\">REHEARSE, REHEARSE, REHEARSE! And, just when you think you have it, REHEARSE SOME MORE! Most performers kill their chances of getting cast because they aren\u2019t prepared.<\/li><li class=\"mb-3\">Breathe! Remember \u00ad we WANT you to succeed! It makes casting decisions easier when you \u201cbring it\u201d and deliver what we need for our shows. Part of your assessment in the department is based on your audition skills, no matter what your degree program may be!<\/li><li class=\"mb-3\">BE FEARLESS!
