Students can tailor the program, making it adaptable to the needs, abilities, preferences, and career and professional goals of the student.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"h2 font-condensed mt-4 mb-3\"><a style=\"color: #0052a5!important\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/catalog\/undergraduate\/#\/programs\/SJPHy-Oid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Minor Requirements<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Students must declare the minor through the myUCF Student Center in order to be awarded the minor upon graduation.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a class=\"btn btn-secondary my-3\"\n\t\t\thref=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/catalog\/undergraduate\/#\/programs\/SJPHy-Oid\"\t\t\t\t\t\ttarget=\"_blank\"\t\t\tstyle=\"background-color:#0052A5!important;border-color:#0052A5!important;\"\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t\t\tUCF Catalog: American Studies Minor\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\n<div class=\"d-block mt-4 rounded p-4 pb-3\" style=\"border: 1px solid #C0C0C0\">\n<p class=\"lead\"><em>Always defer to the UCF Undergraduate Catalog for official requirements<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The American Studies minor requires 18 hours of coursework, divided among the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Three credit hours of American literature from the Department of English<\/li>\n<li>Three credit hours of social science and social issues from Criminal Justice, Political Science, and Sociology<\/li>\n<li>Three credit hours of history from the Department of History<\/li>\n<li>A total of 6 hours in Humanities, Philosophy, Religion, and Culture, divided as follows:\n<ul>\n<li>Three credit hours of philosophy and religion from Anthropology and the Department of Philosophy<\/li>\n<li>Three credit hours of art, humanities and culture from Africana studies, American history, anthropology, archaeology, art history, film, philosophy and theatre.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Three upper-division credit hours of restricted electives from the previous four categories or one of three lower-division courses in American music<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 class=\"my-4 h3\">Individualized Curriculum<\/h4>\n<p>Students may design an area of concentration of their choosing including coursework from two or more subject areas such as history, philosophy, religious studies, political science, anthropology, sociology, africana studies, and cultural studies.<\/p>\n<p>For example, a student might concentrate attention on American social problems or cultural movements in the South and choose a combination of courses such as this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Literature of the South (AML 4261)<\/li>\n<li>Protest in American Politics (POS 3234)<\/li>\n<li>History of the South since 1865 (AMH 3403)<\/li>\n<li>American Philosophy (PHH 3700)<\/li>\n<li>History of Latinos in the U.S. (AMH 3586)<\/li>\n<li>Southern Politics (POS 3173)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\n\t\t\t<div class=\"jumbotron jumbotron-fluid bg-inverse pt-5 pb-4
