They bestowed on it<\/p>\n<p>a spillway, baptized <em>The Glory Hole. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The surprising dark. A tunnel to the very center.<\/p>\n<p>The oldest say you can see the steeple<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>in a dry year, impaling serous sienna.<\/p>\n<p>For months, these men excised canned goods, locomotives,<\/p>\n<p>the dead. Every <em>Beware of Dog<\/em>, gazebo, five-and-dime\u2014<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>but left all ambitious underwater elms, which above-surface<\/p>\n<p>had dropped off from Dutch elm disease.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Please become born, baby,<\/p>\n<p>so I have someone to serenade. In kindness,<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll lie: lullabies moved from the valley,<\/p>\n<p>with the children to whom they belonged.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When you lose your fresh pearl teeth<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll draw parallels to caverns in the hills.<\/p>\n<p>And should you be unlucky enough to be beautiful,<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I will tell you of the trees in this novel lake:<\/p>\n<p>the forced dance, the bend<\/p>\n<p>and break, trunks as carefully preserved as crow\u2019s feet<\/p>\n<p>in a wax museum grin.
