{"id":3564,"date":"2019-03-25T10:00:07","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T10:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/floridareview.cah.ucf.edu\/?post_type=article&amp;p=3564"},"modified":"2019-03-25T10:00:07","modified_gmt":"2019-03-25T10:00:07","slug":"salvaging-beauty","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/cah.ucf.edu\/floridareview\/article\/salvaging-beauty\/","title":{"rendered":"Salvaging Beauty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>(for Alan)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Peonies are blooming<\/p>\n<p>to the point of collapse.<\/p>\n<p>They lean into each other<\/p>\n<p>with nothing to say.<\/p>\n<p>Gracing lawn and stones,<\/p>\n<p>thousands of fragrant petals,<\/p>\n<p>extravagant as wings<\/p>\n<p>relinquished.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>To make final bouquets, I take<\/p>\n<p>every flower that does not dissolve<\/p>\n<p>at touch\u2014late blooms, buds<\/p>\n<p>surrounding first display\u2014<\/p>\n<p>pinks, bold and blushed;<\/p>\n<p>shameless yellow;<\/p>\n<p>white, center-stained<\/p>\n<p>with crimson.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Every vase chipped<\/p>\n<p>or cracked I fill;<\/p>\n<p>vases on every table<\/p>\n<p>in the house.
