English B.A. – Creative Writing<\/a><\/h3>\n

The creative writing program introduces students to fiction, poetry, and non-fiction prose through the appreciation of existing texts as well as the production of their own texts in these three genres. Students learn the craft of writing creatively through the study of theory and the close analysis of their own practice.<\/p>\n

English B.A. – Literature<\/a><\/h3>\n

The literature program helps students develop the ability to read discerningly, think critically, and write clearly. The study of literature in its historical, cultural, and theoretical contexts helps to reveal to students the ways of people and society while encouraging the lifelong pleasure to be found in this art form.<\/p>\n

English B.A. – Technical Communication<\/a><\/h3>\n

Technical communication prepares students to fill the communication needs of the business and scientific community. Students learn how to apply the principles of written, spoken, and visual communication to a wide variety of situations, using state-of-the-art software and hardware in the departmental Technical Writing Laboratory.<\/p>\n

Minors<\/h2>\n

Creative Writing<\/a><\/h3>\n

The Creative Writing minor is designed for aspiring writers of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. Students produce their own work and respond to others,\u2019 while gaining valuable career competencies and skills for future graduate programs.<\/p>\n

Digital Humanities<\/a><\/h3>\n

The Digital Humanities minor spans the fields of literature, rhetoric, technical communication, philosophy, public history, and cultural and textual studies, exploring how they can be infused with digital methods and practices in coding, game design, and archiving.<\/p>\n

Florida Studies<\/a><\/h3>\n

Florida Studies is an interdisciplinary minor that offers students a general background of the history, literature, politics, art, culture, and environment of Florida. This minor could be especially useful for students in English, History, modern languages, anthropology, art history, and political science.<\/p>\n

Linguistics<\/a><\/h3>\n

Linguistics is the scientific study of language at every level, from sounds and gestures on up to words, sentences, meaning, and how language changes over time. The interdisciplinary minor is designed to introduce students to key linguistic concepts and is especially suited for students in English, modern languages, anthropology, computer science, legal studies, psychology, communication, and for anyone interested in how language works.<\/p>\n

Literature<\/a><\/h3>\n

The Literature minor is designed for students interested in learning to think critically about texts and develop clear writing skills. Students learn about the historical, cultural, and theoretical contexts of literature and how it can help us understand society.<\/p>\n

Medieval and Renaissance Studies<\/a><\/h3>\n

Students in the Minor in Medieval and Renaissance Studies immerse themselves in the art, history, literature, world languages, and philosophy of these unique eras of world history. This interdisciplinary field of study surveys a breathtaking vista of the multicultural, social, and technological accomplishments dating from the fall of the Roman Empire to the close of the seventeenth century.<\/p>\n

Technical Communication<\/a><\/h3>\n

The Technical Communication minor is designed for students interested in learning writing and communication skills that can be applied to technical and scientific careers. Students in the minor focus on analyzing technical communication situations and communicating text and visuals clearly and accessibly to a variety of audiences.<\/p>\n
