Our application requirements are also detailed in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/catalog\/graduate\/#\/programs\/S1As0edju\/Sy-8xW_i_?bc=true&amp;bcCurrent=English%20MA%2C%20Literary%2C%20Cultural%2C%20and%20Textual%20Studies%20Track&amp;bcGroup=College%20of%20Arts%20and%20Humanities&amp;bcItemType=programs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">graduate catalog program entry<\/a>, midway down the page.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/applynow.graduate.ucf.edu\/apply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">apply online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to be considered for one of our funding opportunities, you must apply at the Priority Deadline (January 15).<\/p>\n<hr class=\"my-4\" \/>\n<h2>Application Materials<\/h2>\n<p>In addition to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucf.edu\/catalog\/graduate\/#\/content\/60a2ce84c9d8ad001bc0c0d3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general UCF graduate application requirements<\/a>, applicants to the English MA program must provide:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"my-5\">\n<li class=\"mb-3\"><strong>An Official Transcript<\/strong>\u00a0(in a sealed envelope) from each college\/university attended.<del><\/del><\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\"><strong>Two Letters of Recommendation<\/strong>\u00a0(preferably from current or former teachers). The letters should testify to your ability to complete a graduate program. It is helpful if the recommender has an advanced degree, and we prefer at least one of the letters be from a professor who knows your work from undergraduate. However, any source able to describe your work ethic, writing ability, and maturity will be helpful.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\"><strong>A Statement of Background and Goals\u00a0<\/strong>of 300-1000 words. The goal statement should provide a narrative of your educational progress and how a Master\u2019s degree fits into this trajectory. In other words, tell us where you have been, where you are, and where you wish to go.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\"><strong>R\u00e9sum\u00e9 or CV <\/strong>if applying for an assistantship by the Priority deadline.<\/li>\n<li class=\"mb-3\"><strong> A Writing Sample<\/strong> of approximately ten pages needs to accomplish two tasks. First, it functions as a sample of your ability to communicate well in prose. Second, it should demonstrate your capacity to make an argument about a literary or cultural topic supported by research. In most cases, the writing sample will have originally been created for an undergraduate literature class, but this is not a requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your application and materials must be submitted through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/applynow.graduate.ucf.edu\/apply\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UCF College of Graduate Studies online admission system<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You must meet the minimum UCF admission criteria, but this does not guarantee program admission. Final admission is based on evaluation of your abilities, past performance, recommendations, match of this program and faculty expertise to your career\/academic goals, and your potential for completing the degree.<\/p>\n<p>Your undergraduate degree does not have to be in English. Nonetheless, it is expected that beginning students will be able to contribute intelligently to the program and write competent graduate-level scholarship.
